Mackintosh Corporation specializes in the supply and installation of waterproofing systems for green roofs and gardens. Mackintosh provides the complete system, with the basic components consisting of waterproofing, water retention/protective mats, drainage cells, and filtration geotextile with perforated pipes. The growing medium can also be included as an add-on.
A green roof, also known as a living roof, is a roof of a building that is partially or completely covered with vegetation and a growing medium installed over a waterproofing membrane. It may also include additional layers such as a root barrier, drainage system, and irrigation system. Green roofs can be classified as extensive (grass and/or minimal vegetation), intensive (fully landscaped and heavily planted), or semi-intensive (a combination of both). Mackintosh installs waterproofing systems for all these green roof types.
Mackintosh primarily uses the Sika Sarnafil G476-15 PVC Membrane System for green roof waterproofing applications. Sarnafil pioneered PVC membrane waterproofing and, under the guidance of Sika, remains a global leader in this field. The Sarnafil G476 green roof system has a proven track record of more than 50 years worldwide and has been tested under various climatic conditions. It is one of the most reliable green roof waterproofing systems available and delivers long-term peace of mind.
The Sarnafil G476 membrane can either be loosely laid at the slab level or fully adhered, depending on project requirements. Sarnafil G476-15 comes with a 15-year material warranty from Sika, while Mackintosh provides the workmanship warranty. The British Board of Agrément (BBA) rates the life expectancy of Sarnafil membranes at more than 40 years. The standard Sarnafil green roof system installed by Mackintosh consists of the Sarnafil membrane, retention geotextile mat, drainage cells, and filtration geotextile. Perforated pipes and growing medium may be supplied by others, although Mackintosh can also supply and install these components.
