Mackintosh Corporation specializes in supply and installation of waterproofing systems for Green Roofs and Gardens. Mackintosh provides the entire system with basic components being, waterproofing, water retention/protective mat, drainage cells and filtration geotextile with perforated pipes and growing medium being add-ons.
A green roof or living roof is a roof of a building that is partially or completely covered with vegetation and a growing medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane. It may also include additional layers such as a root barrier and drainage and irrigation systems. Green roofs can be either extensive (grass and/or minimal plants/vegetation) or intensive (full of growth). It can also be semi intensive (in between). Mackintosh installs waterproofing for all these green roof types.
Mackintosh primarily uses the Sika Sarnafil G476-15 PVC membrane waterproofing system for the waterproofing for green roofs. Sarnafil invented the PVC membrane for waterproofing and under the guidance of Sika remains the world leader in this field. Sarnafil G476 green roof system has a 50+ year track record globally and has been tried and tested under all climatic conditions. It is simply the best green roof system and delivers peace of mind.
The Sarnafil G476 can either be loosely laid (at floor) or fully adhered. Sarnafil G476-15 comes with a Sika 15 year warranty on material. This is an effective warranty from Sika with Mackintosh warranting workmanship. The BBA rates the life expectancy of Sarnafil at 40+ years. The basic Sarnafil green roof system that Mackintosh installs consists of the Sarnafil membrane, retention geotextile mat, drainage cells and filtration geotextile. Perforated pipes and growing medium can be supplied by others. However, Mackintosh can supply and install both.
Mackintosh can also use the following intermediate priced products for green roofs:
- Davco GRS2000 – This is a polyurethane application that is root repellant. This product carries Singapore Green Building Product approval.
- Sikalastic 632R – This is a polyurethane application and is root penetration resistant.

winter), longer roof membrane life span, sound insulation and the ability to turn wasted roof space into various types of amenity space for building occupants. Green roofs filter particulate matter from the air, retain and cleanse storm water and provide new opportunities for biodiversity preservation and habitat creation. They generate aesthetic benefits and help to reduce the ‘urban heat island effect’ – the overheating of cities in the summer which contributes to air pollution and increased energy consumption.
Change (IPCC), the highest scientific body responsible for evaluating the risk of climate change, affirmed in its Fourth Assessment Report that the “warming of the earth’s climate system is unequivocal” and that this warming is attributed to the dramatic rise in human-induced greenhouse gas emissions since the mid 20th-century. The Philippines, an archipelagic nation of over 90 million people, now faces threats from more intense tropical cyclones, drastic changes in rainfall patterns, sea level rise, and increasing temperatures. All these factors contribute to serious impacts on our natural ecosystems—on our river basins, coastal and marine systems, and their biodiversity—then cascading to impacts on our food security, water resources, human health, public infrastructure, energy, and human settlements.” Climate Change Commission in its National Framework Strategy on Climate Change 2010-2022
