About Sika
Kaspar Winkler founded Sika in 1910 in Switzerland. He invented Sika-1, a quick-setting waterproofing admixture for mortar, which was used to waterproof the Gotthard Tunnel, enabling the Swiss railway company to electrify this important connection between Northern and Southern Europe.
From humble beginnings, more than 100 years later, it is now a global conglomerate with operations in more than 80 countries worldwide.

History of Sarnafil
In 1962, a Swiss company called Sarna developed a new thermoplastic waterproofing membrane to replace the traditional multi-layer bitumen roofing system. In 1964 Lausanne Expo, this newly introduced membrane was successfully applied by an architect on the Expo’s large tent-like pavilions. This exposition introduced Sarnafil membrane to building professionals throughout the world. With its proven quality in the past more than 50 years, Sarnafil G|S membranes and systems has provided reliable roofing for many different buildings.
As the inventor of thermoplastic membrane, Sarnafil takes a leading position in this market. Sarnafil G|S PVC membranes, with its fabric reinforcement, hot air weldability, fire resistance, self-cleaning surface coating and outstanding weather resistance, is a premier product, with the longest application history in the field of single-ply roofing industry.
Joining Forces
Sika, a Swiss conglomerate, acquired Sarnafil in 2005 and consequently, Sarnafil became part of the Sika Group.
