Sustainable Solutions
Mackintosh Corporation is committed to finding waterproofing sustainable solutions and green solutions. As waterproofing specialty contractor, Mackintosh is not in a position to affect the entire construction as its involvement is limited to the waterproofing works. However, by selecting the right waterproofing material, addressing specific environmental issues and through innovation a difference can be made diminishing the effects of climate change and global warming. Mackintosh sees this as its mission.
Concrete decks are one of the biggest culprits in creating the urban heat island effect. Heat islands form as vegetation is replaced by asphalt and concrete for roads, buildings, and other structures necessary to accommodate growing populations. These surfaces absorb—rather than reflect—the sun’s heat, causing surface temperatures and overall ambient temperatures to rise. Waterproofing and correct material selection hold part of the solution.
Green roofs not only address the heat island effect but also hold many additional environmental and sustainable benefits. Not only does it provide storm water retention, lesser water use, air pollution cleaning, etc. but also culminates in energy savings.
Installing heat reflective exposed waterproofing to concrete decks is another way to lessen the effects of the heat island effect. The sun’s heat is reflected, rather than absorbed, from the surface reducing the slab temperature. Energy savings due to cooler slab temperatures are also gained.
Mackintosh Corporation offers these sustainable solutions and many others.
The installation of exposed Sika Sarnafil fully adhered PVC membrane to roofs and decks is ideal base for the installation of solar panels without waterproofing penetration using Sika Uni-Anchors or Sika Uni-Base as mounting for the solar panels.
